What is the National Disability Data Asset?

The National Disability Data Asset is a new way to link data about people with disability.

In this summary we call it the data asset.

A document with an information icon on it, a folder full of documents and a tick.

When we talk about data, we mean:

  • facts
  • information
  • records.

The data asset will get data about people with disability from different parts of the government.

A group of people raising their hands and pointing at themselves. One person is in a wheelchair.

It will help us better understand the experiences of people with disability.

2 people having a conversation and a document with data on it.

It will also give us more information about programs and services.

What is the Council?

A computer screen that says 'Test' with a tick and a cross. Above it are 2 calendars. One calendar says '2020' and the other says '2021'.

We spent 2 years testing how the data asset would work.

A group of people sitting at a table and a thumbs down icon with an arrow pointing to a thumbs up icon.

During this time, a group of people gave us advice about how to make things better.

A data icon and a thumbs up icon.

Their advice was about how the data asset should work.

3 people behind a podium. On the podium it says 'The Council'.

And included creating the National Disability Data Asset Council

We call it the Council.

The Council will make sure people are using the data asset in the right way.

A person holding a document with 'Rules' written on it.

The group of people also shared rules the Council should follow.

A handshake and a speech bubble with a tick inside it.

These rules include agreeing with the disability community about how to use the data asset.
