How do we store the data?

An arrow pointing from a document with data on it to a person using a computer.

We will store the data on a safe computer system.

A person giving a thumbs up. Above them is a government building and a map of Australia.

State and territory governments can also use and store the data.

But only if we say they can.

A person using a computer.

If we say they can, they can use the data on their own computer systems.

A computer screen with a safety icon on it.

We will make sure all these computer systems are safe before we store any data on them.

How do we store the data from the Pilot?

A document that says 'Pilot' with a thumbs up and a thumbs down. Below it is a calendar that says '2 years'.

We spent 2 years testing how the data asset would work.

We call this the Pilot.

A person holding up a document. On the document is an arrow pointing from a thumbs down to a thumbs up.

A pilot is a trial that helps us find out what:

  • works well
  • needs to be better.

A document with data on it and 3 icons. A sharing icon, a linking icon and a search icon.

The Pilot tested the best ways to:

  • share data
  • link data
  • find and use data.

An arrow pointing from a document that says 'Pilot' with an information icon and a computer screen with a safety icon on it.

We have stored all the information from the Pilot on safe computer systems.

It doesn’t include any personal information.

 A document that says 'Rules'.

We have rules about who can find and use this data.

A government building and a graph inside of a speech bubble with a question mark.

If any governments want to find and use the data, they need to ask first.

A document with a magnifying glass and a tick. Below it is a gavel.

They also need to show that their research follows the law.

What rules do we follow when we store data?

A document that says 'Framework'.

The Australian Government has a framework about how to store data safely.

A framework is a plan for how things should work.

2 people beside a document with data on it and an information icon. Above it is a safety icon.

The framework explains how to protect:

  • people
  • information and data.

A person reading a document and a tick.

We will follow this framework.

The framework will help make sure we know who:

A person writing on a document and a problem icon.

  • manages risks

A person pointing at themselves and raising their hand. Above them is a computer screen with a data on it inside of a speech bubble.

  • reports on how the data asset is working.

A person reading a document. Above them is a document with data on it.

It will also help us manage who can find and use the data.

A person pointing at themselves and raising their hand and an education icon.

And make sure these people have the right skills and experience to use the data.
